The compliment that sticks most in my mind is actually a bit back-handed. My friend said to me last year, after a tutorial on Milton in which I had rambled on about religion, "I always forget how smart you are."

Well, this may sound a bit cheesy, but the best compliment someone ever gave me was my husband saying that I was a good cook

Laura - it is like any way you take that there is a little voice in the back of your mind going, "Waiiit, what?" Those are always so confusing. Maybe she meant, "I am sometimes amazed to be friends with someone so smart. I sometimes forget how smart you are due to this amazement which at times confuses my thinking process." Though that doesn't sound that better...

I love to cook, and bake. Though I don't really have much choice since my hubby is useless in the kitchen.

My girlfriends have all been this way! But we always went out to eat instead because I am a vegan and most of them were not.

 

I think the nicest compliment I got was after someone I didn't know very well was having a bad flashback about something and I sat next to them not really knowing what to do. She told me after that she felt safe with me being there, and that made me feel so good. She was a really kind and fabulous person.

 

ETA: I am wrong. My nicest compliment is tied with something someone else said about wanting me to be around. I do not go into detail here because I sound like I'm going crawling up my own ass.

@Andrea - Oh no, that's completely understandable. I got told something similar once. But it was my college husband and we were fake-married and it was only a bowl of pasta...sigh! Good for you though

 

He was a 'he' that gave me that backhanded compliment. Typically enough.

The one that sticks in my mind is when a friend told me if she ever killed someone she would call me to help bury the body.

I know I'm a little late to this topic, but the best compliment I ever got was one I don't quite remember! It was from my girlfriend and on the phone. I remember saying to her, "Awww... that's the best thing anyone's ever said to me." But I am completely blank about what that "thing" was!!

 

how could I go and forget that?!
