121 miles is long distance when you're both 17 and too busy with school to get licences, jobs, or alternate means of transportation.

I don't see how they'd get everything into it, frankly. How could you impletment the One Power into comfortably, yet true to the source material? It's substantially different from more common versions of 'magic' in fantasy.
And the graphics... I don't want cartoony graphics for a WoT game, it just wouldn't feel as serious as the series is.
The TV series wouldn't only cut characters and plotlines, but merge and replace some characters and plots with others. They might even cut characters that appear often, just because they aren't overly important to the whole arc.

I won't say Twilight is horrible, it isn't. Stephanie Meyer grabs her intended audiance by the throat, however, it seemed to me she just took everything popular in romance and pushed it together.
I'm probably going to start The Eye of the World again.

I notice many of the things you've mentioned even at my High School. I can't speak for everyone, everywhere, in every circumstance, but I find it is largely because people just don't "be" anymore. They have to "be something". People find a song they identify with, they have to "be" that song, not themselves. They find a book/movie/game/etc. character they identify with on some level or would like to be more like, so they try to become that character in a real world. What I'm seeing is artificial people trying to live in a real world... Or people finding that the people they want to be aren't real and can't be so they become angsty.
Jan... I feel for you. Although, maybe you should attempt a more direct (but not too forward) approach. *shug* It might help.
