  1. Episode Ten - Cry Me a River

It was the trial to end all trials. Trial of the century? Phaw! Trial of the entire wheel of time more like it! No one could say whether it was strictly legal, but Egwene al'Vere had accused Cadsuane Melaidhrin of being...well Cadsuane Melaidhrin.

As if that insult wasn't enough, the girl had made weak-kneed Romanda Cassin her Chair of Pardon. Her entire defense rested on Romanda, while the whole Grey Ajah had been rounded up to present evidence against her. Not to mention all the various Aes Sedai the world over dragged to testify. Ingrates.

That wasn't to say she wasn't guilty of committing a few crimes now and again, or hadn't broken Tower protocol every few decades, but nothing deserving of this! They wouldn't even let her put her hair in a bun or wear her Legendary Attire.

Even so, she managed to enter the room with her usual--and well practiced--grace. Upon locking eyes with Romanda, the Yellow burst into tears like Sheriam of old. As if Cadsuane needed any more hints this was to be a bad day.

Nynaeve's hands stung something fierce. Slapping Lan for something done twenty years ago was foolish and pointless but it was the principle of the matter! She told him as much!

"Nynaeve, my love, my buttercup. We were drunk! And I didn't even know you!"

Nynaeve sniffed and tugged her braid and sniffed again. "That is not the point, al'Lan Mandragoran, and you know it! You shared your bed with Moiraine! That hussy! That...that...Cairhienin!"

Lan gave an exacerbated sigh. "We were drunk. I didn't know you. I cannot take it back."

"All the more reason for my irrational anger."

Moiraine tried to sneak into her bedchamber but Matrim caught her. "We need to talk, Moiraine."

"Right now?" She tried to give him an innocent smile. It didn't work. If only she had Elayne's dimple!

"Yes, now! Lan says you two, uh, exchanged, uh, certain things, uh, twenty years ago-"

"Yes, yes, we were very very drunk. Nothing to report."

"So you were drunk. Yes." He looked at her as if she were a lying Aes Sedai! "What about Siuan?"

Moiraine was taken aback. "Siuan? Siuan Sanche? Former Amyrlin Seat? Hahahahah, oh her, yes, well. We might have done things between the sheets while in training and sober. Siuan from Tear. Tear. I kind of caused Tear to declare war on Cairhien. You know, pillow friends are a natural, very natural, part of the White Tower lifestyle for young women in their novice and Accepted days. Nothing to concern yourself with."

She pecked him on the cheek and slipped back outside before he could realize what she had just admitted.

Galad caught his aunt Moiraine while she slinked from her apartments into the corridor. She hissed at him as he grabbed her by the arm, but she followed him out to an atrium just the same.

"What is the meaning of this, Galad Damodred? Have you lost what little brains you have!"

"Calm yourself, dearest aunt. Most beautiful aunt." That seemed to soothe her. It was also true: after all, she looked just like him. "I couldn't help finding out about your and Lan Gaidin's escapade twenty years prior."

"How do you know of this? Never mind. We were drunk. Never speak of this again."

"You were drunk, yes. But what about your sober one night stand?"

    "Sober? That is to say...I mean...I cannot...recall...what you speak of...exactly...clear enough to...confirm...."

Galad allowed himself a small, sly, smile. "I am willing to keep your secret. For a price."

It occurred to Nynaeve that slapping Lan around was pointless. She suspected he might even enjoy it. Thus, her only recourse was to slap Moiraine. With as much fury as she could muster, Nynaeve stalked her way to the chit's private garden for a confrontation...

    ...and wished she had not.

Thom had the good grace to look abashed as he stood and gave her an awkward bow. Moiraine gave off a look that said nothing amiss had happened whatsoever, although her flushed cheeks gave her away. Nynaeve assumed she should be grateful they at least had clothes on and hadn't been doing anything too incident. Although why Moiraine would let a gleeman, and an old and ugly one at that, flirt and try to fondle her was beyond Nynaeve.

Nynaeve made her apologies, backed away, and got the hell out of Hinderstap.

  2. When looking at profiles, what does the 'reputation' mean?

    And yes, Marie, awesome sig.

At the bottom of posts, above the Reply and Multiquote buttons, there is a little plus sign. If someone likes your post and hits that plus, your Rep goes up one. :ghug:

  3. This is dedicated to Kaitlin. :ghug:

Thom watched Moiraine as she slept. She was disheveled and a little stinky from her stint in the Tower, but he loved her all the same. Even with a little drool dripping out of her mouth.

Actually that is all I have. But now you have your Mo/Thom. :(

  4. Something I noticed awhile ago is that Elayne is "Perfect"

    • She's tall, pale, blond and blue eyed (is she Swedish in secret?)
    • She's the Best Damn Queen EverTM
    • She has fabulous embroidery skills
    • She's a cordon bleu chief in the making

Not to mention she is more gungho about the sharing of Rand than the other two (at least nowadays). I really can't get over her cooking skills; why would a noble know how to cook so well? Moiraine doesn't even fill her own soup bowl. Indeed, her aunt's lack of skills makes her more of a princess than Miss Perfect Dimple.

  5.

by the way, my BIL has a theory that Olver is Gaidal Cain. but i didn't think that would make sense since Gaidal Cain seemed to be in telaranrhoid sooner than 9 years ago. but still im not eliminating it completely...

RJ himself said that it wasn't possible for Olver to be Cain because time doesn't work backwards in T'A'R.

  6. Bryne suddenly got a lot sexier through Sanderson. With RJ I never knew what the sparse descriptions truly meant so I was always scared I would be confronted with an overweight, greybearded oldie in the end (I am quite certain that would be the case with RJ actually). He makes sense now too, but Siuan got another layer of not making sense at all. But damn, they got cute, and no more of that strange abusive stuff that made no sense. :D So... the content got a bit scrambled but I love the new package.

When I read about Sexy Bryne I thought of you.

That sounds a little awkward. :o

    I shouldn't be in here. O.O

    No you shouldn't!

Also, Mat must be dense. How hard is it to piece together "My Dearest Thom" "hold me in the same affection as you seem to" "I want to save Moiraine!" and realize Thom might have a crush at the very least?

And Tuon's new name has to be one of the most awkward and fugly names in WoT. Every time I read it I was like "are you serious?"

I still can't get over Nynaeve missing Moiraine.

  7. I never said they wouldn't be friends, well ok I guess I did :D but I know that is unrealistic. I simply mean they won't be the same kind of friends.

I also think them not spending time together would help them maintain their relationship in an odd way.

Of course I knew when I was thinking of this post I was being sacrilegious for MW. :o

  8. The part with the bugs...yech. I bonded with Romanda and her paranoia over "is that a cricket?!" But when roaches popped out oh jesus lord help me I do not like cockroaches not even fictional ones. I was a little confused over why it was so hard for them to kill them, or why they were killing so few. I would have been making the biggest block of Air and slamming down, not just the ones nearest me. Actually, no, I would have gotten out of there a hell of a lot sooner.

I wanted Rand to kill Min. I know that is sick, but I just have a hard time accepting that fourway of theirs is going to be all happy. Which is why I was glad to see awkwardness between Avi and Min.

Egwene does seem to like to remind Siuan of her place a lot. I can see the point to an extent but it just seems overly done sometimes.

I still can't get over the horrible Mat chapters. Saidared!? Really?!

OH! AND HOW COULD I FORGET! If I have to read one more time about someone gritting their teeth I swear to Olivia's grandmother I will hurt somebody!

  9. At the end of The Gathering Storm I can recall thinking to myself "they can't be friends anymore".

Now I know that when she comes back her and Siuan will have some happy-sappy reunion because everyone loves happy endings, blah blah blah.

But let us look past that for just a moment.

First off, even in comparing NS Moiraine/Siuan to TGH Moiraine/Siuan there is a distance in their level of friendship. This seems a bit more pronounced on Moiraine's end. Yet, I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, it seems Siuan is the one who doesn't really show the same level of affection as Moiraine does her toward the end. They might be old friends who love each other, but they are not BFF anymore.

But things are different now. They were once equals in One Power strength, and I honestly can't see Moiraine ending up at that same level. If she was stilled she'll probably be Healed by a male channeler (I don't think she was stilled, but whatever). So now you'd have Moiraine above Siuan in rank. Siuan is also a disgraced Amyrlin, pains me to say it but she is, and Moiraine is a damn legend. She found the Dragon Reborn, killed Forsaken, came back from death.

Then there is Bryne. I'm sorry, but I think Thom/Moiraine are a more dynamic couple; they are the kind of couple who'd see fancy art movies and eat nasty foreign cheeses and have exclusive cocktail parties. Bryne/Siuan? Uh, yeah, they're probably going to go back to his manor and have babies until he dies and she...does whatever this new weak sap Siuan does.

Maybe it is an issue with Sanderson's characterization, but I just cannot see Moiraine being buddy-buddy with new Siuan. Myrelle? Yes. Nynaeve? After a few drinks. But Siuan? From a distance.

  10. Episode Nine - Traffic

Romanda stared at the silky piece of parchment resting on the table. She stared at it as if was a viper. The Amyrlin Seat--that child--had summoned her to Tar Valon. Summoned! Her! Romanda!

Even though she most surely did want to leave Light-forsaken Emond's Field and return to the Tower, the conditions al'Vere had set out turned every thing upside down and caused her to want to remain in the village. Of course if she stayed some trull-headed sister would come hunting for her and make her life as miserable as she made Siuan Sanche's. And she'd still have to follow through with the Amyrlin's orders.

For the first time in a good long while Romanda wallowed in self-pity and cried like a baby.

Siuan pretended Elaida was her hoe as she slammed it down into the soil again and again and again. Sometimes she dreamed of slamming the hoe into Elaida's head, but history had shown there wasn't much in there so Siuan was uncertain if the blow would actually kill her. They were nice dreams at any rate.

"You! And you! Come here! Now!"

Elaida squeaked and ran toward the bellowing Romanda. To her chagrin, Siuan scurried after her. The Yellow looked at them with eyes more baleful than usual, her silvery bun all but quivering with rage. Despite herself, Siuan's eyes darted in search of Elayne: Romanda didn't enjoy dirtying her hands with corporal punishment, but Elayne was quite fond of the slipper.

"We are returning to Tar Valon. There will be no time once we get there for you wash up and change, so do it now and do it fast because if I have to do it for you, none of us will arrive there happy." With that, Romanda turned her back on them and stalked off.

Elaida was already half changed and washed by the time Siuan entered their dingy hut.

"You must hurry, Siuan! What if she punishes us both for your slowness?! You must hurry!"

Siuan growled and glared and threw a boot, but when Romanda returned for them she was as fresh and clean as Elaida. Romanda seemed both grateful they had followed her instruction and disappointed she couldn't punish them on principle.

"Why are we going to Tar Valon?" She knew she shouldn't ask, but the words slipped out of Siuan's mouth.

Romanda's answer was to grab them both by an ear and drag them to the Traveling grounds.

Mat and Lan sat across from each other at a small table, untouched mulled wine between them. Mat stared so hard Lan was embarrassed to discover he wanted to shift in his seat.

"All right, Mat. I'll admit to it: once upon a time I may have been drunk. I may have also been, um, eager. Moiraine may or may not have been drunk too. We might have decided to experiment with the Warder bond. But I assure those set of circumstances only happened once."

"So you now say you didn't father Moiraine's unborn baby?"

"Yes. Nynaeve is the only woman for me. Although sometimes I can't decide if she reminds me more of Moiraine or Cadsuane when we are-"

Mat stood up abruptly. "Don't finish that thought, Lan. Please don't. I am glad we could clear the air, however." Mat didn't look glad and he still shot Lan a hateful glance as he exited the room.

There was a part of Galad, a deeply hidden part, that enjoyed doing dirty things. Bad things. Like eavesdropping on Mat and Lan. It made him feel giddy enough to giggle.

Lan was a tricky beast, as was to be expected of a man who would marry an Aes Sedai. He told Mat he and Moiraine had only had drunken sex once. But what about sober sex, eh?

Galad was planning something evil. And he liked it.

Moiraine was of the opinion that the best thing to happen to Siuan Sanche was getting thrown out of Tear. It was a horrible country. Humid, and dirty, and the people were too tall, too busty, and too musty. It was a disgusting place to be and she hated it! But Moiraine was a diplomat of the highest order even if she wasn't a Grey, and she knew how to hide her displeasure from Tear's rulers.

King Darlin and his queen Caraline offered Moiraine iced wine and cheap cheeses as way of courtesy. Moiraine nibbled out of politeness and wished for home.

"Cousin, it is a pleasure to have you here." Darlin smiled at her.

Moiraine gave him her best noblewoman twitter and took a deep draw of her wine. Flirting with Darlin was petty and foolish but she couldn't stand that face-stealing Caraline!

Caraline shot daggers at her with her eyes, but managed a smile all the same. "You look fat with child, cousin. How much further until we see the little one?"

Somehow the wine in Moiraine's cup and the pitcher beside her ended up all over Caraline's face and dress. Caraline screamed and lunged herself at Moiraine. Darlin took a step forward but the now empty pitcher managed--with a little help of Air--to get lodged over his eyes: it couldn't slip past his nose.

Moiraine couldn't convince herself that her life was in danger so she was reduced to clawing and biting at Caraline who seemed quite eager to return the favor. Darlin eventually succeeded in getting the pitcher off his head and dragging the two Damodreds apart as they hissed and spit at each other like cats. Well, Caraline hissed and spit; Moiraine could never be reduced to such antics.

After exchanging some words with the stupid couple, Moiraine left Tear for the sanity of Cairhien. She did not look forward to telling Matrim about the meeting.

  11. I suppose my issue is RJ has never made any mention of prostitutes. Nynaeve didn't believe in the idea of slaves-didn't even know the word for it at the start of the series, so I suppose I am willing to believe Randland is more "innocent" in certain areas.

After all, in the Age of Legends before the shit hit the fan, people didn't even know of war. I'm going to have to side with Olivia on this one.

  12. I should post before it all leaves my mind!

Last warning, I am not using spoiler tags.

    :P

    Stop looking, Brynefan!

I will start by saying I don't care what Kaitlin says (she's smoking crack!) Moiraine's name wasmentioned more than usual per the latest books in the series. Toward the end I thought her ears must be burning red in that Tower and I was a bit sick of it, to be honest. It is pretty obvious it is a layup for her dramatic return to the fold. Nynaeve suddenly missing Moiraine and recognizing her own prejudices against the Aes Sedai was just odd to me. Nynaeve=/=rational when it comes to Moiraine.

    Anyway.

Chapter 22, oh my Jesus. I'm glad I hadn't read any spoilers about that chapter. I was so scared Cadsuane's pride would make her do something and Rand would just balefire her ass. It was a very  chapter for me at the end. Good stuff.

Sheriam is such a disappointment. A weak, weepy, self-justifying, Darkfriend. I loved the way she tripped herself up, maybe because it involved red hair, but her attempts to talk like a bad ass just rang false. Especially when she started crying for her life anyway. Always crying.

    I love Romanda. :(

I'm glad Morgase is finally revealed to Perrin even if I didn't see it happen. I am fine with that, I'm just glad it ended. Ditto for Egwene finally becoming Amyrlin.

Speaking of which, I loved loved her and Elaida's back-and-forth. It was funny and great. I hope they save Elaida, however, because I can't stand the thought of anyone being leashed. In fact, I really would like to see the Seanchan put in their place about that.

I'm glad Siuan/Bryne have finally become an official couple, but good lord, Siuan these days is not the Siuan I used to love. She is just...yeah. I also now believe Egwene is the better Amyrlin than Siuan was or ever could have been. Never thought I'd say that. :\

Also, Mat. Horrible writing. Mat does not make long "funny" anecdotes or write "dramas" for his coverup stories. It was so obvious BS was trying really, really, REALLY hard to make Mat "Mat" and it just failed. All of his chapters were just awkward to the extreme. I hope we get Thom's POV at least for some of Moiraine's rescue.

  13. What happened to MW? @_@

To make a long story short, vBulletin was going to want to charge me near $200 every couple of years to maintain access to the most up-to-date version, which left me with a few options:

    1. Keep running vB3 past it's end of life, hackers be damned!
    2. Update now or later to vB4 and pay $175 and then another $175 (or more!) when vB5 comes out.
    3. Change forum scripts

There are some kinks, but all-in-all everything seems to be working just fine.

Hopefully this week staff will be able to highlight the positives of this new script; I hope people give it a chance! :(
