  1. The way you put it makes sense. Cakes only get worse with time so there's no excuse to wait. It doesn't fit that well into this day perhaps. If you only had rotten potatoes to eat every day and got a cake I'm sure you'd want to eat it AND keep it xD

  2. Those are all made by Seamas Gallagher and Jeremy Saliba, who have done quite a lot of fanwork before that I love. :hbang: That Trolloc doesn't look like the ones Seamas put on his blog earlier, though, so he has adapted some to the other art.

  3. Then it was the Haitian version I read about :hbang: I wasn't that good at picking sources back then.

:faint: I like how the natives of South and Central America did about the same, incorporating Catholicism into their own religions. I remember having to sing a song about how Jesus was born in Peru in Spanish class.

  4. As far as I can remember from writing a silly little text on psychosomatic death for high school psychology, the reason of death would be exclusion from the tight-knit groups and the depression that would follow. I think Voodoo itself was something like: African spiritual religion covered in Catholicism to keep up a Christian face to the slavers.

It's been years now, so that's about as much as I recall :hbang:

  5. Since it's not a sensitive matter to me: None in the family goes to church other than special occasions. My relatives are members of (liberal translations ahead) the Swedish Church and Missionary Church (some of them have been members of both all the time, even before the organisations started co-working), but they mostly go to church to grab some coffee and gossip. My uncle is some sort of representative church politician, but all I know him for is getting slightly too drunk at parties and telling odd stories. :kissy:

They used to be stricter on my mother's side and some of those relatives still are, but we rarely spend time with them. Looking at photos from 100 years back yes, the women did wear loose fitting clothes and shawls on their heads, as proper Christians :kissy:

  6. I meant "player" rather ambiguously so either interpretation works

But... in NS they were only speaking of boys and as soon as they got out from the Tower Siuan was keeping herself busy with one, bragging about it in front of Mo! Siuan said something like... "some day you'll want to do more to a boy than kiss him and I'd like to be there to see it"... hmmmz!!! Oh dear the pervy images.

Makes one wonder what goes on in Emond's Field.

I don't want to think about it. They're insanely inbred and it shows :?

  7. Aww... but I think they have changed too much over the years they were apart :ddd:

What would Mo think of Siuan's new looks and weak powers? Would Mo, being the player she is, accept Aes Sedai hierarchy and treat Siuan as less than equal because of her weakened powers? And in what shape will Moiraine be anyway? Is she stilled too and young-looking (even more eww factor for Thom/Mo) or more powerful somehow, like Gandalf?

  8. So I'd see killing her off as a mercy.

Exactly! Min also has some postponed working time for Gareth Bryne, so if she doesn't die she'll have to be his and Siuan's maid for a while (Siuan has probably worked off the debt by now and will be released as soon as Gareth has made sure she will stay with him anyway). No time for Rand then! :mwahaha: OK, that's quite ludicrous since he apparently let Leane go as well although she was still in the camp...

  9. another thing about Siuan/Gareth is that Egwene offers to intervene (to stop the, uh, "abuse") but Siuan says no. I don't think its much of a pride thing for her since she doesn't seem to have too much of that these days. She likes it.

Ah yes  See my indisputable proof in the spanking thread. It's been so long since I read the books I started to doubt them, but after some reading I'm relieved.

  10. I don't remember the scene where Bryne spanks Siuan but I figure it and the rest of the scenes where they have at eachother are about as close as Jordan got to slapstick (a name that is pretty ironic in this instance) and I don't think it would have been doable with the dear general slapping his maid across the face. At least not if taken in the sense of a stronger part abusing a weak.

There is no actual scene, but shortly AFTER the first spanking was mentioned Siuan was showing her first signs of attraction to Gareth. o_O (Perverted, I know) At the time for the cat-fight with Nyn in TAR (The Fires of Heaven, To Caemlyn):

Siuan had on a gown like those Leane wore, only more sheer than even Leane would ever wear in public, so thin it was hard to tell what color it was. Not the first time she had had that on today, either. What was perking around in the back of the woman's mind?

    ...

"And what has you so jittery you can't hold your dress still? ... Maybe it's something I heard last night?"

    ....

"I heard you heaved Gareth Bryne's boots at his head when he told you to sit down and polish them properly - he still doesn't know Min does the polishing, does he? - so he turned you upside down and -"

Siuan's full-armed slap rung her ears. For an instant she could only stare at the other woman, eyes going wider and wider. With a wordless shriek, she tried to punch Siuan in the eye.

    ...

"Still, it might be a good idea not to discuss Gareth Bryne." She gave a start as the worn dress became a gown, red with black-and-gold embroidery around the hem and swooping neckline.

These two are violent women. xD Nynaeve really abused the hell out of Lan (well tried to) when she slapped his face over and over again after they reunited. I don't think Siuan would allow Gareth do spank her if she didn't actually - sort of- enjoy it?

  11. I have told myself that Siuan and Gareth are playing some sort of game. The first abusive action between them was when Siuan hit Gareth over the head with his boots. Now that ought to hurt a lot. His response was not to slap the bitch, but a rather cold and humiliating spanking. The second scenario that Siuan herself has mentioned is when she put salt into his tea just to tease him into violence.

Siuan reacted with violence when Nynaeve teased her about the spanking (Leane had spread the tale I think) and that ended with them rolling on the ground in the most epic cat-fight imaginable. Siuan is a violent person. Even more so than Gareth, I think. But I don't know how to reason about this as an outsider anymore  While I do have trouble thinking of Gareth as abusive, he was showing physical signs of rage (or something different?) when Nynaeve spotted them in an argument in the streets of Salidar. He seemed content when she argued back and didn't have any need to act upon it. He LIKES when the woman can fight back. Do I make sense? xD

Bah, that's what they're doing in my head at least, and I'm far more comfortable that way. But I'm definitely not RJ. If I had been, Thom would have looked better and Mat would be the Dragon Reborn

  12. I'd like Siuan and Gareth to spank in the kinky way, not as punishment of childish behavior. *sigh* But that is not the case. I'll probably be disappointed whatever happens to them and I'm quite disturbed by this, even though Siuan often starts the "abuse". Getting a boot in your head can't be looked upon as innocent either.

I can definitely see spanking as the step between mental breakdown and physical abuse. Not that I know anything about this area >.<

  13. *Slaps forehead* I've missed about a month of posts here. Usually I do visit and read what's going on without posting much, but now I've actually forgot/postponed when I did remember. <.< Hmm... *sees action in fanfiction section and investigates*

  14. Whilst there can be complications, there aren't always. I think it was more of a problem in the olden times, when babies were born at home with only a midwife.

My brother was born like that at home with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck to boot. It went fine because he came out so fast. It's either a miracle or because I made way for him with my big head a couple of years earlier XD Both? Sure glad Dad was a farmer and could help out instead of fainting. Luckily I wasn't at home at the time.
