aMoL Reactions. What did you think?

Recommended Posts

It wasn't the worst wot book ever. But I wouldn't put anywhere close to the top. It was better than the last one.

The ending was disappointing and short and the body swap was cheesy.

No one really died. O yea Egwene but she was the only biggie. A bunch of minor characters who were lucky to a sentence in their honor. Elayne was once again saved and Lan survives a sword stabbing. People on dragonmount are crying over Bela and I'm just like...really? Siuan makes you go meh but you'll cry over a horse ok. I miss wotmania.

Basically no Moiraine and a while bunch of sword duels with a Forsaken. Sword fights w/ a channeler? Just open a gateway under them and be done with it.

There's more points I'm sure, just a few off the top of my head there.

I really liked this one. It had flaws, it had stupid parts, it wasn't as good as RJ would have done. But it was a fitting end to an amazing series. Sanderson did well with the impossible task he was given. This book had so many great moments it'll take me a while just to process them all in my head and figure out how to talk about them intelligibly.

AMoL will never be my favorite book, nor will any of the post-RJ books, but damn did it stir emotion in me! Thom was right, in his scene, that the word "epic" is overused, but I can't come up with anything else to describe it. It made me ... not happy, not amazed, but... I dunno, proud to be human, both because of what the fictional characters were going through and what all the real-life people went through to produce this series. That sounds pathetic, needing a fantasy book to enjoy life like that, but oh well, going through a rough patch in real life atm.

This book enriched my life a bit, and this series enriched it a whole lot. WoT is complete, you guys, and I'm more eager than ever for the future.

Wow. Phew.

I haven't read the book -- and not intending to, though I want to know what happened (I read the wikipedia page and generally surfing around for loose ends) -- but am disappointed about the Moirainelessness. Not getting what the point of killing her, reviving her (so to speak) and then abandoning her was. Might as well have let her die heroically in FoH, then!

And, really? No Mo/Lan reunion scene?! Pity... I might have read it for that. I should hunt for fanfic!

*Goes back to surfing around for aMoL synopses*

EDIT to add: Caddy's fate :)

1. Cadsuane's fate is fitting. She always had the makings of an Amyrlin.

2. I am in agreement about Moiraine. I would have liked to hear more about the way her character might have changed as a result of the imprisonment.

3. Siuan's death saddened me a lot. I really wanted her to see Moiraine again.

4. I need to hear what was said between Tuon and Artur Hawkwing :D

5. Gaidal Cain/Birgitte = Olver/Elayne's girl? I want to believe this is true.

6. Did Morgase die? I seem to remember something about Elayne seeing a familiar red-headed woman's corpse being carried out (tied to a horse?) by one of Mellar's men? If this is so, what of Tallanvor?

7. I love how Thom said the word "epic" is overused :D

8. Berelain/Galad? Do they end up together?

9. What happens to the Aiel now? Pretty loose end there I think.

10. I was expecting more of a shock to the Seanchan after learning that sul'dam are basically marath'damane. I wonder if Cadsuane will forge a campaign against them to end their tyranny of channeling women.

Olver isn't Cain: he's too old and RJ eventually had to come out and say time doesn't flow backwards in T'A'R just to finally settle that theory. As far as Birgitte it would seem she was being reborn right then so not Elaynes kid. Maybe that one very pregnant Aiel Wise One.

Also Morgase is fine I'm sure. I think Elayne just meant she recognized her own hair color and what the Darkfriends intended to do.

The book was awesome, though I it didn't make it to my top list (yeah, like a few deaths and a blown fuse could top TSR). But I liked the end and the feeling for so much yet to happen even after the finale. Man, the WoT world has potential for SO MUCH more stories now... But, maybe it's best that fans imagine their own Fourth Age world.

I liked how the Dragon died, but Rand himself lived. And, since Avienda is supposed to have children from him (Min's viewing), she's either preggers now, or will become later on. Min becoming a Truthspeaker and Cads becoming Amyrlin were surprising to me. Gay men were mentioned twice.

The book did have goofs in it. Pevara saying a lie is one I can think of without looking at the book. But I liked it, and when I think of it as a whole with TGS and ToM - yes, A Memory of Light was powerful and majestic and the best ending. Or, just an ending.

It took me a rather long time to get to the end of it. :( I did not want it to end but it also was not as exciting as I had originally hoped for.

There were not many reunions and the ones we did get were very short and didn't feel all that meaningful to me.

It was not a bad book, just not as great as I was expecting and hoping. :(

Finally getting round to rereading aMoL, I've been meaning to do it for about 6 months or so and I must admit its better the second time around. In part because I'm taking my time and not trying to read the whole book in a day but also because I'm not constantly wondering where Moiraine is. (I'm also skipping large parts of Perrin's PoV which helps)

I just reread the last three, every time I try and reread the whole series I kinda get lost in aCoS and then give up...eventually I will reread the whole series...hopefully.

Also when I was on ToM I just skipped chunks of Perrin's PoV because lets face the story doesn't really progress all that much until Galad and the whitecloaks appear
