:) The biggest mistake is Gareth Bryne. It says that he has been the core of the Queen's Guards under three queens, but he only became Captain General when his predecessor died in the Aiel War, with Morgase on the throne. Either he was a wonderchild that influenced people, or it's all rubbish. I don't know about that queen before Morgase. She was quite old, but how long was she a ruler?

Was poor Gareth a soldier at fourteen, causing irreparable mental damages? Is that why he's so paranoid? I think that he's so calm all the time because he has to stay in the Void, keeping stuff away.

*puts on necromancer outfit*

So I've come across another tiny little name similarity and I want ppl's opinions on whether it's just a coincidence or one of RJ's "Just as planned" moments.

Near the beginning of ACoS, FAILe is talking to her dog and telling him about Aes Sedai she read in the history books who did really awful things to people and put up with hideous stuff all because it was part of some devious White Tower plan.

One of the Aes Sedai she mentions is called Jestian Redhill. Any relation to Merean Redhill, the Black from New Spring? If so, maybe Jestian was a relative of Merean (or even her mother, since Aes Sedai are said to rarely have children) and the reason Jestian did those horrible things was because she was also Black Ajah rather than just furthering a White Tower scheme. Maybe being a Darkfriend is something that is passed down through a family xD (Although Kadere does mention having to kill his sister for finding out, so maybe not...)

Anyways, is there some relevance to them having the same surname or is it just a coincidence? "Redhill" isn't too complicated of a name after all, so it could just be that both Aes Sedai happened to have it.

Is six months enough time to not count as a double-post? ;)

Another possible mistake I found regarding Min and her viewings:

In TDR Ch2, Min has told Perrin that she had tried "warning people about bad things when, at six or seven, she had first realized not everyone could see what she saw."

Then in ACoS Ch2, Min is telling Perrin how relieved she is the Aiel don't think of her as a freak for her visions. "You can't know what that's like, Perrin. I was twelve when it started, and I didn't know to make a secret of it. Everybody thought I was just making things up."

So wtf RJ, was she 6 or 12 when she starting seeing things only an acid tripper would see?

Well, tripping acid is a pretty good excuse for an addled memory, and voluntarily joining a harem for that matter.

Six or seven seems a better age in any case, since she should have had some more sense at twelve years of age with her upbringing.

THis might have already been mentioned, but I noticed a lot of inconsistencies with New Spring and details in the books about individual Aes Sedai. Like in book 2 you get the impression that Verin is much older than Siuan and Moiraine ans he has a sort of mistress of novices-type relationship with them, then in NS you get the impression that she's the same age or at least that she's a peer not a mother figure. Then in Book 6 RJ makes Myrelle seem way young. He says she's only been an Aes Sedai for a few years and is by far the youngest of the Salidar group. But then in NS she's the same age as Siuan and Mo and Sheriam, who is also one of the Salidar group. I can't imagine she wasn't raised shortly after them as well.

Why do the Fades smile and smile and smile till about book three and then after that everyone who sees them says "A fade NEVER smiles"!?

The first book has them smiling (EVily) all the time.

I think there was some theory on another site that the few Fades who somehow have a sense of humor/irony were prototypes for Shaidar Haran, who as we know has a very cruel sense of humor and more personality than any of the other Fades the Forsaken have seen. *shrugs* Beats me, though.

Double posting again a month and half later. :P I came across another little thing and rather than make a new thread I will just post it here, since it was for random connections/misconnections noticed in the books.

So the chant "The lions sing and the hills take flight. The moon by day, and the sun by night. Blind woman, deaf man, jackdaw fool. Let the Lord of Chaos rule." is from LoC, and I was reading a book about ancient military history and came upon this section about Hittite warriors:

"The soldiers swore an oath to the king and to the royal family; to ensure their oath, they underwent a magical ritual, in one part of which a blind woman and a deaf man were brought before the army and the army was told, 'Look upon this blind woman and deaf man. Whoever violates his oath to king or queen, let his oaths take him - let them strike him blind, let them make him deaf. He will be as blind as this blond woman. He will be as deaf as this deaf man. May his oaths destroy him - himself, his wife, his children, and all his kinfolk.'"

I wonder if RJ made that chant/rhyme intentionally like that old warrior oath :D, since one of Rand's themes as the Dragon Reborn is about "breaking all bonds" and oaths, and that last part about "Kinslayer". Or it could just be another coincidence...

I don't so much wonder as I believe he took that old warrior oath. There's no way you can get a coincidence like that. It's word-for-word for crying out loud.

On that same note, it's probably time I reread WoT. It's been 2 years since I read one cover to cover...

I also noticed something a while ago.

In the beginning of DR when Rand first comes out, (I don't know where he was) he sees Lan sharpening his sword.

RJ said like a million times that the sword was Aes Sedai made, and no matter what you do, it does not need sharpening EVER.

Now, maybe he was just bored, but Lan isn't quite the type who would do something that he knows isn't necessary. xD

I just came across this! Although it is at the very end of TGH, not DR. :)

But that makes it worse because at the beginning of TGH Lan is the one who tells Rand those swords don't need sharping and it is a fool's errand. I can be more forgiving of cross-book mistakes but within the same novel?! :)
