Americans get lots of things confused, because we have all kinds of combinations of things from different places. We are cluless about tea, so teas with spice or are sold with milk and sugar and using black teas.. they are usually called chai, I think! I made my own sort of "not really chai" with this recipe:

Boil 5 minutes, then steep 10 minutes:

1 Tbsp fennel or anise seed

6 green cardamom pods

12 cloves

1 cinnamon stick

1/4" ginger root, sliced thin

1/4 tsp black pepper corns

2 bay leaves

7 Cups water

Add, bring to a boil, and simmer 5 minutes:

2 Tbsp Darjeeling tea

Add:

6 Tbsp honey or brown sugar

1 Cup milk

I am having hot chocolate! *squeals softly*

What you made sounds a lot like the 'Masala Chai' we get in some places here. Its very tasty and healthy too.

We indians always take our tea with milk and sugar.

Dosa + Chutney

You do? We don't even get good tea in places. We get small tea bags that sit around shoved in the corners next to cream cups and sugar packets where the straws are.
