Lan and Moiraine: BFF?

Recommended Posts

But then they hugged and stuff in the Great Hunt...so I wouldn't say they 'moved on'. They still care about each other as old friends do. But they now have other friends and what-not and how do we know Siuan didn't shed a tear when Moiraine died? *shrugs* Perhaps it was to preserve that facade of never having really known each other that covered their search for the DR?

And Moiraine was affected when she heard Siuan was stilled...she just didn't cry. But then not everyone cries to express grief.

But does Siuan have any bearing on Lan/Moiraine's friendship? Probably not. Just like Moiraine had no bearing on Siuan/Alvin's (that was her warder's name, wasn't it?).

I doubt any Aes Sedai doesn't have a friendship with her warder - very few wouldn't, like those crazy Blacks.

Never said they weren't friends, but a hug doesn't make you best friends.

Everyone knows they were close, they just don't know they remained in touch. We don't know if Siuan cried, but that really wasn't my point. We do get her p.o.v. and there is a lack of any real thought process about the loss of a friend. But we are getting off topic; I could go on and on about Siuan/Moiraine's "friendship".

:P Well said.

I don't think Lan/Moiraine were the huggy best-friendy types, but they certainly became close friends, if only because the bond gives an intimate understanding of the other's emotional process and feelings; also living with each other every day for twenty years and saving each other's lives, and watching each other kill. And the Lan/Moiraine relationship is in no way comparable to Siuan/Mo, even for those who think Siuan/Mo were just friends.

I guess it really comes down to how we ourselves perceive those relationships. Mo did say she loved Siuan more than anyone at the time, and it shows through her actions that she cared deeply for Lan. Maybe those two relationships are not able to be compared. The best friend thing is mostly something younger people do. There are people in my life I care for a whole lot, and I can't say who I care for more.

A sexual relationship with both people equally commited to each other would probably be more important than deep friendship, but only if that sexual relationship included deep friendship.

I think they can be compared. We compare friendship all the time, thus the phrase "best friends". You can't have a best friend unless you decided that person and you had a closer bond than you and someone else.

Or you could be a Sim (of Sims2) and have many "best friends" :P
