Moiraine theories

Recommended Posts

I agree with Olivia. It's a bit like "As you know, Bob..." where a character says something for the readers benefit.

That, and Moiraine does have a temper that she lets flare sometimes. She could have been mad at herself for going into that much detail in the first place.

*nods* Yes, she could have been mad at herself because of that.

I can see what you mean, Olivia (by the way, congrats on being Member of the Month!!!), and that makes a lot of sense. But, Moiraine wouldn't know she was doing it for the reader's, because strictly speaking she as a character thinks that she is real. I mean, that wouldn't be Momo's reasoning, but RJ's use of her for some handy little exposition. So, for her motivation it would have to be something else. I just want to tell myself that she liked Thom from the start better than the boys or Egg. *giggles* She did, after all, laugh all low and delighted at him when he did his knife trick at the Ferry guy! Low laughs mean sexiness... *hums*

Ohmygosh, I guess that's what the beautiful thing in my sig is! Thanks people! <3 I'm all warm inside :D Cookies to whoever made it, those two are one of my favorite shoujo-ai couples! I'd love to know what the kanji say.

And on topic, I had never really noticed the Mo/Thom interaction in book 1 (probably because I was too busy fangirling over Moiraine to notice her pay attention to a guy) but I can just imagine her low sexy laugh.

I can't read Kanji, but maybe it has to do with MotM? Marie always makes those banners! :D

It's not exactly obvious, but Momo stuff usually happens sneaky, so I tried to think in sneaky terms when I read that part (I'm not sneaky...like Niklas!). *giggles* That was like the main time Mo and Thom spent any real time together, so I was trying to see if there was any evidence that she at least liked him! I know Thom likes her, even though she's an evil Aes Sedai. Oh, let me find the laugh part...

Thom Merrilin stepped forward grandly and held up one empty hand, turning it slowly. Suddenly he gestured with a flourish, and a dagger twirled between his fingers. The hilt slapped into his palm, and, abruptly nonchalant, he began trimming his fingernails.

A low, delighted laugh floated from Moiraine.

I think I must have been in denial when I first read the books because it wasn't until later that I noticed the momo/thom interactions

Me too. I think I was just focusing on the main plot and the younger characters, and how much of a rock star Bela was. *looks over at her Bela posters on the wall and tries not to admit she still fangirls over her* ;P

This is scandalous! I've missed out everything except that last meeting in The Shadow Rising. What on earth was I thinking about back then? Not Bryne, for sure. Not until The Fires of Heaven. Probably Rand's exaggerated "problems". Oh, I hate him so much.

Go Thom! He's only getting cooler in my mind.

Well, he does have hostility toward Aes Sedai, but he also has talked a few times about liking her. Then he went moody about her for a while (amidst the other stuff he brooded about). That's what I'm guessing anyway. *rubs the bridge of her nose and leaves a smudge of ink behind obliviously*

*nodnods* Yes, that's why I was looking for evidence that RJ meant them to hook up from early on in the books. I think maybe he did intent that, but he didn't make it very clear at all. Hopefully they won't be already together in the last book, as soon as she's rescued. It would be more believable to explore Thom's bias against her because of what she is some more, or at least deal with the fact that he was conflicted at some point. But, he did show signs of being attracted to Moiraine at different points early on, and then reminding himself what she was, so that's consistant at least.
