Did people pay Nynaeve? Or did she get something automatically from the town funds? In other words, how, exactly, do Wisdoms survive?

I agree with what's already been said. I think Wisdoms get food or clothing as payment/gratitude. Nynaeve also mentions that she had her own house in Emond's Field, so maybe that was built for her (or her predecessors) too.

But on the other hand, Nynaeve is often mentioned as being really stingy with money, and why would she be that way if she never actually used money (meaning everything she needed was directly provided for her). So maybe the townsfolk actually pay her with real money and then she buys what she needs, or maybe gets a discount on stuff. Or it could be a combination of both of those ways; she gets both money and material rewards. (so I agree with what's already been said, no new material from me)

I have always thought it would be funny if they paid her in carrots. But that's just because I think carrots are cute.

Yes, I think probably Wisdoms from other areas might get coin more as payment. Maybe the smaller, more isolated places might have more carrots!

As for carrots, ... why ?? Why not tabac, or wool or other veggies too ?

I think people either paid her in cash or kind, depending on what they can afford. That would make sense, I think, for a small village like Two Rivers.

The only thing is though, with such a small village they might not need her too often. So in that sense an actual salary seems like it would be the best thing to keep her afloat. She is also able to be mean to people which makes me think she must not have to depend on them for money.

I have figured it out. As payment for her services the village sends her young women to keep as her *cough* "apprentices". The young "apprentices" then have to do some very hard and wet work until the wisdom sends them away. INNUENDO OVERLOAD. *Cough**cough*cough*cough**nudge*nudge*
