The only woman in WoT who is not falling for an older man is Morgase, and she's really hated herself for it though the difference in age is not that big. I think that RJ is somewhat prejudiced about those matters. Min doesn't count. The difference between her and Rand is not that big.

 

I'd like a 50+ woman to fall in love with a 25 year old man without feeling bad about it. Women tend to look younger than men anyway.

 

We speak the same language! Yay! RJ's romance formula is indeed strange, and I personally am getting pretty tired of it. Makes me cringe to think of Moiraine/Thom or Nynaeve/Lan; those couples just seem to have too much age difference (I know Moiraine is in her forties, but when she comes back I just bet she will be conveniently young and fertile like Siuan became after stilling). And the mens' over-chivalry gets really annoying, when they do things like drive the women away 'for their own good' but then end up 'being weak' and letting the women stay and being all angsty over it. /end rant

 

Anyhow, I've grudgingly accepted Mo/Thom as canon, even though Mo/Siuan will always be better imo. =)

You should Read Steven Eriksons books. Its dark and violent and people just generally get f***ed over. And then theres this great plot and characters. And then when out of nowhere some mushy (this being a relative term) romance pops up you almost fall out of your chair in shock. And then people die again. *sheds a tear at the memory*

Ebou Dar is a different matter. Tylin was not afraid that Mat would walk away from her because of her age. Then she would probably have him killed.

I've come to like Thom/Mo, but I didn't always. What's got on my nerves more has been Nynaeve/Lan. There's a couple with not a lot in common (except for basic personalities?), and a sort of instant love. Bryne/Siuan has been a little strange to me as well, to be honest. They're closer in age than Thom/Mo, but Siuan doesn't look it.

 

I hope RJ doesn't do the same with Thom/Mo. It would cheapen the whole Siuan/Leane stilling and the repercussions, and make the Thom/Mo icky.

 

He has an issue with women and age, and women and sex altogether. He didn't have to make the Aes Sedai look forever taunt to begin with.

 

Except, that maybe Siuan shouldn't count in this discussion, because she is man. She's the younger man with an older woman along with Morgase, who's attitude is practically that she's a pedophile when Tallanvor is barely younger than her.

I've actually reached the conclusion that Siuan and Gareth are identical except for their temperaments. Once they too realise it, they will be much happier. I think that their relationship is rather understandable, because it's developing during some time and they see each other a lot. That instant ignition on Gareth's side that made him follow her was just pure loneliness. Rand/Elayne, now that's weird.

 

I don't approve of the Nynaeve/Lan combination. The first time I read The Eye of the World I was quite shocked when she suddenly loved him. What possessed her? First she's a grumpy girl usurping her authority, then falling for a man who's constantly scouting miles ahead of the company. When did they actually talk before that?

Humans have a need to label things and put them in categories. That doesn't nessecarily make someone a bad person, unless ofcourse one treats people from certain groups in a condescending manner. Something I find pretty annoying is when people is insulted when people label them as lets say a "nerd" or tomboy or whatever, when they infact are those things. Its only an insult if you make it one.

 

Oh and Brynefan I'm not talking about you, I really don't know you well enough to assume anything about your personality.

RJ's romances are queer, strange, and altogether very.... I wouldn't.

 

All of Rand's pairings save Min later and Eggy sooner are a no no.

Lan and Ninny, no.

Thom and Mo, nah.

Gareth and Siuan, no.

Mat and Tuon, that I'm actually a little, a LITTLE okay-ish with.

Perrin and Faile, no. Used to be yes, but then someone told me Faile's age, and then no.

Eggy and Gawyn, no. I just don't see it.

Galad and anyone, no.

I like Lan/a man or woman his age, though he seems to prefer only women.

Maybe even Mogase/Lan. It seems weird, but they are both incredibly hardheaded and stubborn, and royalty.

 

Moiraine/Mat I seriously like Moiraine with someone who is like Thom, Mat, or Siuan. She is dramatic inside enough without needing someone dramatic in the very same way. That would just equal Relationshipmeltdown. They can have complimentary drama, but she needs humor like one of those have.

 

Egwene/no one. She's better just as the woman in charge right now. Later on she can seduce Leane or somebody.

 

Rand/no one. If he really cared about keeping all women safe he wouldn't let himself get involved in any relationship, especially since the Forsaken have been known to go after the people he cares for.

Everybody should. Then all the WoT women would be half as hysteric as they are. The men who want it as well.

That wood thingie made me remember a good laugh I had at New Spring. First they walk through an oval doorway , then they put their hands on the oath rod that is a foot long and slightly thicker than Moiraine's wrist . All this takes place in a huge, white tower full with women.

 

Of course the books are crammed with this stuff, but this part was simply too much.

Either somebody clueless or somebody extremely good at the Game, and so good that they silently agree with each other to leave the game out of their private times, because any gaming would result in a stalemate.
