WoT people are white and pale

Something that bothered me about the comics was that all of the Aes Sedai/Novices/Accepted/Warders basically had the exact same skin tones.

 

In comics you have to make people bright or outlines won't work... unless you do it like Vargen.

 

Moiraine has to be pale... I bet she'd hate to be all tanned like those working commoners that you measure by the 10,000 in wars. She might even have a little umbrella thing that she makes Lan hold for her while on their long journeys. WoT men are so sacred about women too so I bet he'd actually do it.

 

I think just about every long lasting feadual society tends to build up alot of worship for the ruling family. If there isn't alot of religeos hype about them, the commoners will just revolt and run naked in the streets while there is no police around.

 

Anyway, my point is... any actual references to real world history and culture doesn't have to be very deep. Infact, I can imagine RJ getting a USmade Chinese styled fortune cookie saying "Love and you shall be loved thrice in return" and gone all "Wow! I'm so adding this... and those asian people too. They make nice cameras as well"

 

And then we all get to read how Rand has three lovers and some people he gets to beat up are asian-ish or black-ish.

 

Um... not that it is racistic. Rand beats up white people too..unless they are girls, of course. And it isn't as if Rand enjoys it, the books are just written that way.

Momo doesn't have to be pale! She doesn't she doesn't! *fights* She can be tan or anything and still have carefully taken care of skin that Lan has to rub lotion on and make sure is exfoliated!

 

Skin tone isn't a big deal in the books. I'm not saying RJ is all perfect. He made Rand, after all. But, there aren't even different kinds of people at all in most fantasy. All women are pale and fragile (and blond) and all men are rugged and tan and have big cod pieces.

 

They don't have to have the very same flesh tones in comics as well. *pinches Niko* That is just silly!

And Tosh, what about Russia? I'm actually a bit tense about them right now. Hopefully they're just mad with England, but they're no longer following an agreement which was supposed to browse their military power. Not a good sign at all. I hope that Carl Bildt has some "friends" over there.

A mad Hungarian guy made me think of this entire thing. I know that it is completely made up. How else could you make Arthur Pendragon and Adolf Hitler the same person and actually let him succeed and take his "good" people to another continent, living the Main Kampf life?

 

Human beings are born with trying to make out patterns and compare things. I do believe, however, that there had to be some more people further north who were doomed quite to begin with, and these people were without a land, becoming Tinkers and Aiel.

 

I'm a bit confused since we know the origins of the Aiel/Tinkers on what you mean exactly.

OK, I'm no expert on these things. I haven't read The Fires of Heaven, or wherever this is mentioned, in two years. Only the good parts: Siuan, Gareth and Nynaeve. I'm a slow reader, in English, and those books are horribly intimidating. Perhaps I read it and forgot about it and thought that it was just a thought. Blah.

 

I'm pretty sure about that the Seanchan have that type of racial politics as Hitler thought was necessary. As with the Asian stuff, all the cultures are quite Asian. The light religion, or whatever you may call it, and the wheel of time are Hindu stuff straight through. As the personal, but not free, approach to religion. How could RJ make "The Wheel of Time" his trademark? Could I just snatch Jesus and take a fee for people using it? Perhaps that's already been done.

Honestly, though, I know what you mean about RJ naming his books directly after something so obvious. The Flame and the Void is nothing new. As for the temperature trick, well, that's just Square Breathing. But, most if not all fantasy books are based on myths, legends, and religions. That's the nature of the fantasy genre.

Yeah really. Most of the names of his characters (especially evil ones) come straight from mythologies, or are altered slightly - like Armageddon being phoneticized into 'Tarmon Gaidon' or when you say the name Egwene al'Vere quickly it sounds just like Guinevere.

But by making a thing a trademark, don't you keep others from using it? That's the way with food, anyway. I suppose that it is in a specific situation you can't use it. Like for a huge epic fantasy series.

 

About the Tinkers. Aren't they a lot like hippies? Driving around in their wagons, using non violence. The way of the leaf. I wonder if those sacred trees are narcotic. And the song is probably Let the Sunshine In. That would explain singing it before the harvest.

I'll be back with a correct theory once I've read the necessary parts in The Great Hunt and The Shadow Rising. I think that I was too eager back there. I remember that I got the impression of it when I read TGH so many years ago. I'm also a bit confused about on what I should provide details. I'm the sort of person who tends to write too much about absolutely nothing, which I think I've proved with this whole matter.

 

To be fair, the Seanchan reminds a lot of Tolkien too, with the line of kings returning from the west. Aragorn is one of these, and he lives longer and is a lot taller than the others. That is probably what the Seanchan are about too: preserving a bloodline. Any noble family can be accused of the same thing, and that doesn't make them nazis.

 

The Ogier resembles of less gracious and overgrown elves, if I look upon the matter that way. And that would have more to do with fantasy. Pehaps I should start a new thread. This has nothing to do with white and pale WoT people.
