What are you reading? II

Recommended Posts

Oh snap, VERY tedious! There were some bits however that made up for the price of admission.

I enjoyed-

Every groups reaction to the blazing Saidar beacon.

The humbling of Messana! (BEST PART, for my money)

And all of Perrin and Egwene. Egwene in particular since she was in like two pages of Wintersheart.

Most of the rest was everybody pacing in frustration..... which is what we're doing by the middle of it. RJ makes up for it (for the most part) with KoD.

Semi really gets to go all out as the Mistress of Pain. Though Arangar keeps busy too.

Kram really does mean hug, and I am soul-crushingly jealous of not getting a postcard.

Twilight reeks of Gary stu and Mary Stue to me. H*ll, I'm sure theres even Barry, Larry, Sally and their mafioso cousin Manny Stu in there as well, and their all engaged in a sordid orgy of ridiculous character development and romance to rot stone with its sugary awfullness.

I hate what teenage girls have done to Vampires.

I forget, can I use the four letter word refering to the christian realm of fiery penance in this forum?

I recently began the Sword of Truth Series. I have to admit I struggle a little with how the man writes. Don't get me wrong, he understands tension. There's just something lighter and less impending in all. It's simpler... more to the point... less complex.... less weirdly historical feeling.

RJ had flaws but DAMN he could build a story, and his payoffs were ALWAYS golden (however more spread out they came after the CoS)

Anyway, the Sword of Truth is good thus far, but with Tolkien and RJ in my mind and mantra..............well I simply have a difficult time comparing. There's love in Goodkinds prose but not the same passion that made WoT and LoTR feel so important.

I never continued that series; I started it around the same time I started WoT. I think book four had just come out in hardcover, and I didn't want to pay for a hardcover, and I never went back to the series. Now I don't really feel like it. It's odd, because I did enjoy it at the time, but obviously not enough.

Niklas saw little difference between the Sword of truth series and WoT. Both makes up magic reasons to create drama lots. And odd frustrating virtues that prevents the characters from acting rationally. And they both got their super boy heroes of unknown origin and beautiful girls. Only in Sword of Truth the boy gets the girl rather than three fangirls.
