I've just started reading The Gunslinger by Stephen King after resisting for so long and it has been pretty great so far. The prose is very peculiar, in a good way, and he really manages to add a deeply perforating sense of mysticism to what really is more of a science-fiction setting.

Just finished a very ordinary "Pink or Black?" by Tishaa. Now reading "Sword of Shannara" by Terry Brooks.

Just finished Shadows Edge, now reading Beyond the Shadows.

Just finished 'White Tiger" by Aravind Adiga and started "Jackdaws" by Ken Follett.

Sword of Shannara (Terry Brooks). 240 pages into the story, and are there no women in their world?! It's quite gripping, but I'm getting sorely tired of the overdose of men!

Sword of Shannara is almost a carbon copy of LoTR, but his later books (starting with the next in the series, actually) includes at least 1 major female character.
