The Eye of the World Thread

Recommended Posts

This is the thread of Book 1.

I am not starting with the beginning of it. Do you think Nynaeve channeled to heal Moiraine in the time between Rand's running off and his return? Moiraine's clothes were smoking, but she was whole and without energy. If so, Nynaeve is one talented girl. That would have been the first full healing without herbs maybe.

Also, I <3 Treeman.

I am on page 168 of the paperback.

Coming out of NS one of the things that caught my attention was that now Moiraine wears embroidery. After all her bitching about it last time around, she is a convert.

The village boys thoughts about false Dragons and the real Dragon were interesting to me. The idea that the Dragon will bring the end of the world. Mat also being excited about it all. How quickly he changes.

I liked how everyone is freaking out about what the Peddler is saying and Wit is all "My wife sent me for pins!"

Oh! Mat "defending" Aes Sedai...that was a shocker.

One of my favorite parts of the series is when Thom comes out of the inn and is all complaining about a girl-child with a giant club pushing him out of the common room and our village heros going "um that's our Wisdom...."

Hm, Thom making a point to never know much about Aes Sedai. Soon he will "know" Aes Sedai the way Adam knew Eve. :D

From an early stage battles interested Mat. So I guess it wasn't all those other men's memories.

Rand having dreams about the "Dark One" and the voice being familiar. It is Ishy! (I have always hated how for the first couple of books Rand keeps thinking he's killed the actual DO).

Annnd, finally (for now!) Rand shivering while Moiraine channels.

It was one of the nice touches showing that she evolved. Well, a backwards touch in NS.

Oh Min. Back when you weren't a complete twit.

Incestuously?

Yes. Thom is actually Moiraine's long-lost half-brother, one of the children of her father's first marriage. Which means he is also his former lover Morgase's brother-in-law, uncle to Galad, Gawyn, and Elayne, non-blood uncle to Rand, and father to Bela. :D

Oh my god, I just cannot plod through this novel. I'm not even to Nynaeve showing up yet. I blame The Dark Tower series for stealing me anyway.

At any rate.

Ok, so, Moiraine sensing Rand when he was spying on her and Egwene. I always assumed she just knew it was Rand, but I suppose it's possible she just knew it was one of the ta'veren.

Then there is Moiraine losing her temper. Having read NS a few times now, I wonder if her little outburst at the boys about how she'd kill them instead of letting the Dark One get them was a sign of her old temper flaring up. Well not really "old" since she never lost it.

Um, that's the end of my notes for now.
