I am no longer allowed to get married in the state I was born and raised in and have lived my whole life. ;)

Not a good night for gay rights. Florida, California, and Arizona passed gay marriage bans and Arkansas banned gays from adopting.

That's horrible *pets* You can still get rings though! Rings are the important part...that and the consummation.

Hurrah for BO. BO sounds cute, doesn't it? I watched the first parts of Obama's speech but...well, the whole politics thing seems less fun now that he's won. :/

It's a sad day. ;) I'm glad they immediately filed a legal challenge.

It really has nothing to do with the rings, but the gay marriage ban won't stop people from giving them to the person they want to be with. It's just that gay couples will have absolutely none of the rights that straight couples had. Even if they *give* us civil unions we will be treated as second class. I mean the fact that they count religious ceremonies as federally sanctioned unions doesn't mean that those religions should be allowed to dictate for the whole country who can be joined. Gays aren't the ones who are infringing with their religious views on another group of people.

I know I'm not making sense but I'm not sure how to word it at this point and I'm hungry and need to sleep. :P

Even if it was re-legalized, people who treat gays as second class citizens wouldn't stop. That you're legal rights are restricted, however, is wrong. However, I myself am one that the term 'marriage' not be used by political officials at all. I've always found marriage a religious institution, and although I'm straight, I would not feel that the homosexuals were 'dragging us down' by making it required that even if I get married in a church, I'd still have to go to a federal/state/whatever office and get a legal report of some sort for the legal benefits.

I don't need a politician to dictate my morals. And I'm off the belief that discriminating is a bigger no-no in the Bible than homosexuality or atheism, etc. I'm dating an atheist, and I'm happy with her. I like Kaitlin and Olivia, and I believe this restriction of their legal rights as un-American. I don't think these things make God's final desicion. Would I like people to share my beliefs? Of course. Am I going to cram-feed them those beliefs and compromise my sense of love and fairness for all people because of a footnote.

Rant rant rant... I can't stand the Religious Right...

BTW, hurray Obama!;)

Thank you, Siv. Well, I like you too. ;)

It really would be better in lots of ways for civil unions to be the only government sanctioned unions, but it seems really unlikely for that change to take place. We will probably have to deal with religions being intertwined with the government where it concerns their members partnering up. On the other hand lots of gay marriages are being performed by religious organizations. Why does one religious institution get to have a say about another's beliefs? Shouldn't we at least have the freedom to practice our religion of choice without the government picking and choosing which one to validate when it comes to a marriage license? It's nice of you (in general, not Travis :)) to step all over the constitution like that.

Also, thank you Arkansas for not allowing us to adopt.
