I need to start this thread before I forget what I just read since this time around I'm not even bothering with writing notes.

Well.

 

 

Semi sent the Trollacs to help Rand in Tear. I need to write this down because it seems I forget that fact every time I read the series.

 

I don't hate Rand yet. Or even Elayne. Although, I wonder if Elayne is a true friend to Nynaeve. I mean in the sense that I don't think Nyn has a best buddy like others in the series. Not that I'm a Nyn fan or anything.

 

Although her scenes do make me laugh. Except the ones where she talks about her guilt over dead Moiraine. Those make me tsk at her.

My sister laughed when she saw the cover of my copy of LoC. She said the guy [Rand] looked like a blonde John Travolta.

Ooh this book is where we meet Evil!Lesbian Galina, amirite? I giggled at the scene with her and Erian near the end after they kidnap Rand. Galina thinks how pretty Erian is and hits on her, offering to bring Erian to her tent for some "blueberry tea", but Erian says she doesn't want any "blueberry tea", so Galina goes back to her own tent to "drink that blueberry tea by herself".

 

... I can't be the only person who thinks "blueberry tea" was a euphemism. And didn't Galina also hit on Tarna in the backstory (unsuccessfully). Not that I blame her; Tarna was hot in her two-panel NS comics appearance.

Ok.

 

First off, Rand thinks about Moiraine a lot. Almost to the point where I want him to shut the hell up. I get it! She gave you advice! OK!

 

Tarna pretending to be nice to Nynaeve. That was great.

 

And Sarene! I love Sarene. Pretty White Ajah Girl Friend of Moiraine Who Doesn't Know She Is Pretty And Write Bad Poetry.

 

Oh and Galina calling Moiraine short (and Sarene deciding not to point out that short is relative) and this other Cairhienin Aes Sedai getting all offended. Ha, good times, good times.

Okay, so I already didn't like Myrelle when she acted so nasty to Siuan and Leane when they showed up stilled in Salidar. She was the least sympathetic, especially considering she and Siuan and Mo used to be buddies.

 

And let's just say I'm a bit of a book skimmer, and I found like the two paragraphs were Lan finally comes to Myrelle. *gag* I feel like she's already treating him like a lap dog! The way she thinks of him "A wolfhound mourning his mistress" *gag again* and then the way she speaks to him "Come to me" in a hiss! Where is Nynaeve? Where is Moiraine? Daaaaaah! Okay I know Moiraine can't be there but still! I don't want him going to Myrelle! I don't like her!! Nynaeve must leap out from the bushes and choke Myrelle with her braid until she gives her the bond!!

Hate to break it to you, but you're only going to dislike Myrelle more later on for what she does to Lan....

Don't worry none. It takes a while but the bitchy self important Aes Sedai eventually get knocked down however many pegs they deserve. The cool ones find ways to stay above it. The Lord of Chaos (and the Crown of Swords) are chalk full of that.

 

While we're talking about though, I will say I was annoyed with how Jordan built the Nynaeve/Lan love story. It was such a compelling turn to have those two be so into each other. EOTW starts it off so well. I think it could have been given more screen time throughout the series.

While we're talking about though, I will say I was annoyed with how Jordan built the Nynaeve/Lan love story. It was such a compelling turn to have those two be so into each other. EOTW starts it off so well. I think it could have been given more screen time throughout the series.

 

I wish they would have gotten more time too. Actually the fact that Moiraine and Thom had a conversation alone was like having them run off for months to knock boots as far as Jordan handled WoT romance. Nyn and Lan barely spent any time together after admiring each other's tracking ability and they are the great love story. Along with Perrin and Faile, I guess, if you look at how much time is spent with them. Well, I like a lot of the Lan/Nyn parts later.

 

Myrelle keeps Lan alive for Nyn, and puts him in a slightly better frame of mind for her. Warders are always described as dogs/wolves in the series. Lan was like a wolf heeling a swan according to Rand when he first saw Lan and Mo.

Thats true she does keep him alive. I have to keep telling myself that.

 

Ekh, I just felt like she saw him as a pet though! Perhaps my mind will be changed later on, but man there was some bit in the paragraph about using him for her studies too (since nobody had passed a bond in like 400 years). It just all seemed so unfeeling.

 

And then i was sad yet happy that Lan was still so grieved for Moiraine.

 

I guess I just already had a chip on my shoulder about Myrelle because she totally did not back Siuan up when she came to Salidar stilled. I think that's really at the root of all this. Siuan and Myrelle used to be homies. I'm so disappointed in her.

 

Asmo, I'm glad they get taken down a few notches. I hope Egwene is the one who does it.
