well gosh I guess perhaps I should just give her the benefit of the doubt for now. i didn't like how she dehumanized Lan (at least that's how i saw it) but perhaps she'll redeem herself somehow. perhaps i have just too much of a soft spot for old Lannie

 

I'm excited to see Egwene get powerful. She used to be one of my least fav characters, but I felt like she really changed in Shadow Rising when she was with Mo and the Wise Ones and away from Nyna and Elayne. i like her a lot now

What bothers me about Egwene is that she's written to kind of be set up like a jerkface, only she doesn't get the sympathy Rand does for being his own kind of jerkface. Not that she deserves sympathy, but that's the way she's written.

 

Something that bugs during this reread is why

she didn't tell the Aiel she was the new Amyrlin. If she was embarrassed about lying and saying she was a Green before wouldn't she still be lying to them by omitting this new fact? Why would they hold it against her, if in their society transgressions are done with once toh is met ... and I still think of toes when I read that.

I think Egwene is awesome! Her time as a damane totally rewired her from sweet and innocent and she rose to master manipulator of those who deserved some manipulating. Right woman for the right time.

I'm with you on this, Asmo. I feel like after being in the waste alone with Mo and Wise Ones, she inculcated a lot of their qualites. I like it that she's gotten hard and manipulative. She's kind of like a little Moiraine in that way *pets Egwene*

 

I know she's going to end up with Gawyn and so I'm hoping he's going to have a turnaround before that happens. He's kind of irritating at this point.

...I hate to admit it because it's about Elayne... but she is more like Little Momo, except if she had some of Nana thrown in.

 

Egwene might be like Cadsuane. Maybe I could love her later on.

Right now I can kinda see Elayne as a younger Moiraine in some ways. But then again I don't know how she'll change in the series.

Verin! Up until this point I did not know what to think of Verin. She appears harmless but in book 2 you get the impression that Moiraine doesn't like her being involved, but you think it may just be because Mo doesn't want anyone else involved.

 

but now is this book! Right now I am absolutely convinced she is extremely dangerous and is scheming something huge. I also think she's using Alanna and Alanna is more less being duped by her. I think she hopes to set her up as a replacement for Moiraine now that Alanna bonded Rand.

 

but man, Verin has got something mad-crazy up her sleeve (dont know what it is at all tho) and its not-a-good But this is my Verin theory. I know there are many.

Yeah, she's definitely not what she seems. We get a section from her PoV early in TPoD which explains a lot about her (but still leaves us in the dark)...
