Pedophilia simply translates as love of children, and in the dictionary I checked it said that pedophilia is "The act or fantasy on the part of an adult of engaging in sexual activity with a child or children." I don't know where you got the number 12, Sivart, but I'm guessing you mean that after that age they are usually in puberty and technically no longer children. In today's modern legal sense, a "child" counts as anyone under 18.

 

But in WoTland they are allowed to marry at around 16 or so, and even though Perrin was almost twenty at the time, apparently marrying a 15-16 year old was acceptable....so yea. I agree with the title of this Split.

Yes, in this case it would be more acceptable. This is based on 16th century stuff, and back then 16 was normal. They didn't have the divide of over/under 18. But, I still find it icky.

You can't compare WoT to our world. If that was the case girls would be married off at 12, but clearly they have some boundaries.

 

My issue with Perrin is how upset he got when her parents suggested *gasp* this wasn't the right time for marriage. His possessiveness of her freaked me out.

Yea she is one of the most singularly annoying characters in the books. Maybe it's her extremely skewed opinion on what she wants from a man that just solidifies that RJ often has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to female love. Whether it's that or not, I really don't like her, and I know I'm not alone here.

Yes, it's not as bad as our world was. I was going to mention that, and the fact that I read Marie Antionette had to be married to her brother ceremonially before she could enter France so that she would be a dauphine instead of an archduchess of austria... but yes... *has started rambling about the newest thing she googled*

 

But, WoT is still very much like the 16th century without gun powder because that's what RJ based much stuff on. Getting married at 16 was normal.

 

I agree about his possessiveness. I think Perrin is much more likely than Mat to betray Rand, and all because of his *gasp* Faile! Since I found out she's actually very young she doesn't bother me as much as she did. I can excuse her a little.

Why can't you all just do like me and picture her as the same age as Perrin and extremely attractive? She really isn't so annoying if you do that. You don't really have to see everything as RJ does.
