A anime Tosh recommended to me yesterday, I downloaded it overnight and have watched 7 episodes already (including the uncensored #6).

New and less good? You means the OVAs that are coming out or the new manga chapters?

I was introduced to Hellsing through the first TV series. I know that it didn't follow the authors idea of the story, so OVA is picking that up... and some of the animation is better quality... but

 

Call me old fashioned but I enjoy well drawn out character development. I saw the 1st OVA and it violently rehashed old news without taking anytime for interpersonal conflict (outside the gore fest).

Don't get me wrong, Asmo love gore... but I also enjoyed the quieter conflicts between Alucard, Seras, and Integra in the first series. OVA had Seras totally cool with becoming a vampire right off... where's the the development? I like the shit that slowly makes her deal and eventually enjoy what she is. A methodical build makes for more compelling climaxes.

 

Perhaps OVA gets more in depth as it takes its own life and cue from the manga, but that first episode disappointed me. Though I do enjoy anything that has to do with Paladin Anderson. I kinda miss the old jazzy music as well. I'm more then aware that I'm in a very small minority here. Each to their own.

Its there, though perhaps not as exstensive as in the first anime. The first OVA doesn't show much of it, but the second, third and fourth show more.

 

The thing is that since the OVAs are animated versions of the manga volumes they are going to share all their couterpart's flaws, and the Hellsing manga was pretty bad at first.

 

What really makes me prefer the OVAs and later manga chapters are the "bad guys". The anime big baddie just seemed so blatantly Gary Stu to me.

I kinda miss the old jazzy music as well.

Only show that I have downloaded apart from Dexter where I actually watched the opening every time.

I liked both series. The TV series was cool (and was what I saw first before reading the manga) but I guess I like the OVA more because of the Seras/Integra subtext that was left out of the TV series I was sorely disappointed they left the finger-sucking scene out of the TV series but glad that they kept it in the OVA.

For the past two days I have been on a Ghost in the Shell marathon.

I keep telling myself someday I'm going to watch that entire series. I've only seen S.A.C 2.

 

Serial Experiments Lain.

I never could make sense of Serial Experiment Lain...and Niklas is normally a David Lynch fan(I watched this today and turned really scared!). And I only like Ghost in the Shell because Marie'd hurt me otherwise. And, I kinda like the blue baby tanks too.

 

Much more lovely and coherent than Serial Experiments Lain is Haibane Renmei that...well, I'm not sure really, but they have some staff in common or something.

 

I watched the last two matrix movies recently, something me'd been putting off. Movies likes that makes me blush and feel very embarrassed for the actors and writers...and director. Everything is just too serious and tense all the time.

I never watched season 1. Though I watched the others ( season 2? to current, which is 3 or 4?).

 

Originally I loved it! But then they dragged it out too much, and never answered any questions. Now it's so-so to me.
